Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' trailer: Tom Cruise vs. the world's tallest building

Confession: Until the first trailer for "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" hit the web on Wednesday (June 29), we were only mildly aware that a fourth "M:I" film was in the offing, let alone hitting theaters just before Christmas.

Now that we've seen the trailer, though, we're not only signficantly more aware of the movie's existence but also pretty impressed with what we see.

Tom Cruise is back as the impossible mission-having Ethan Hunt, and his "M:I-III" co-star Simon Pegg returns as well. Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton also star, along with Tom Wilkinson, "Lost's" Josh Holloway (glimpsed ever so briefly in the trailer) and Anil Kapoor of "Slumdog Millionaire" (not seen at all). The "Ghost Protocol" in the title apparently refers to Hunt and his IMF cohorts being purged from official existence after the Kremlin (yes, the whole freaking Kremlin) blows up.

Also of note: "Ghost Protocol" is the live-action directing debut of Brad Bird ("The Incredibles," "The Iron Giant"), who from the looks of things is comfortable with the big set pieces. The shots of Cruise scaling the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, in Dubai are knockouts.

Tom Cruise - Cruise Turned To Bon Jovi For Rocking Advice

Tom Cruise turned to Jon Bon Jovi for rock star advice after signing up to play showman Stacee Jaxx in the new Rock Of Ages musical.

Cruise was keen to boost his rock 'n' roll credentials before taking on his first big musical role, so he asked Bon Jovi for help.

The rocker tells U.S. news show Extra, "He and I actually went out and he was very intense about 'How do you do this?'

"I said, 'Relax man, you're Tom Cruise, you can learn how to sing a song, don't worry about it.'"

Bon Jovi has yet to hear Cruise's rendition of his Wanted Dead or Alive from the film, but he's confident it'll be a show-stopping performance.

The real rocker adds, "I'm confident that Tom Cruise singing Wanted Dead or Alive will be in the trailer."

Katie Holmes: 'Tom Cruise looks great in Rock of Ages'

Katie Holmes has praised husband Tom Cruise's body in Rock of Ages.

The Don't Be Afraid of the Dark actress stated that Cruise is in great shape for his role as Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages, according to Extra.

"[His body] looks great and I'm so excited for him playing this character," Holmes said.

Holmes went on to discuss the premiere of her new horror film Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, confessing that she was scared of the film herself.

"Yes! Yes, I was!" Holmes answered when asked if the movie scared her.

The actress recently starred on The Kennedys opposite Greg Kinnear and Tom Wilkinson.

Cruise's singing abilities in Rock of Ages have already been praised by co-star Julianne Hough and actor Stephen Baldwin.

Rock of Ages is scheduled to be released in cinemas on June 1, 2012.

Tom Cruise stars in 'Rock of Ages' film adaptation

The infectiously popular Broadway musical, Rock of Ages, has reached such acclaim and success that it has earned itself a film adaptation; and Tom Cruise is going to star in it.

As if it weren’t enough that Cruise, the seemingly ageless, basically perfect human specimen, is starring in the film, he’s also going to sing; and Julianne Hough has even commented on his vocals, stating he actually has some vocal chops.

Hough told MTV News, “I'm not kidding, the guy can sing.” MTV has also reported the film is set to co-star some more big names like Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand.

As reported by Billboard, when the project was first announced, Cruise is going to star as “Stacee Jaxx, an aging musician whose glory days are long past,” and will be performing a hit list of the '80s, with tracks by Bon Jovi, Journey, and plenty more.

The film is set to be released in 2012.

Julianne Hough said the image of Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx in the upcoming movie musical "Rock of Ages," which was released last week, doesn't do his portrayal of the character justice.

"By the way, 'commitment' does not sum up the whole Tom Cruise-ness. He is so unbelievable," Julianne told Access Hollywood as she teamed up with Cesar Canine Cuisine and the American Humane Association to kick off the voting campaign for the first Hero Dog Awards in New York City on Monday.

"There's no ounce of like, T.C. in that," Julianne said, referring to Tom's initials. "It's all Stacee Jaxx, the character. He's unbelievable."

Julianne, who plays Sherrie Christian in the upcoming film, said she herself has been enjoying being on the set and donning the outrageous '80s rock-inspired outfits.

"I did not live through the '80s. I was born in the '80s, so the fact that I get to experience it is so fun," she told Access. "I mean, I'm looking at myself, but I'm really looking at my older sister, Sharee, with the hair and everything. So it is really fun."

While "Rock of Ages" has been exciting for the actress, who also has the film, "Footloose" on the way (October 14), she hasn't ruled out a return to "Dancing with the Stars."

Looking very much in love, the "Dawson's Creek" darling lovingly wrapped her arms around her "Top Gun" hunk as the twosome headed to Larios On The Beach for a "Rock of Ages" cast party.

Among Cruise's co-stars partaking in the sunshine state get-together were beautiful actresses Julianne Hough and Malin Akerman, as well as handsome actor Diego Boneta.

As for their movie, the Adam Shankman directed project tells the story of "a small-town girl who arrives in Hollywood at the height of the 1980s rock-music scene."

The Broadway musical based picture also stars Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta-Jones with a release date set for June 1, 2012.

The happy looking couple strolled around Miami Beach, Florida, accompanied by five-year-old daughter Suri who, despite her age, was content being carried by her doting mom.

Tom Cruise Rocks Out With No Shirt and Long Hair (Photo)

Just a couple weeks after Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand Tweeted a photo of themselves in costume for their upcoming flick, 'Rock of Ages,' co-star Tom Cruise has done the same.

Early Friday, the 'Jerry Maguire' actor Tweeted a pic of himself in character as fictional heavy metal star Stacee Jaxx in the big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. Cruise, 48, sports long hair, skintight pants and lots of tattoos.

In the film, he sings Bon Jovi's famous hit, 'Wanted Dead or Alive.' And the director reveals he's got a good voice. "He can sing!" Adam Shankman told E! News earlier this year. "It's a miracle!"

The all-star cast of 'Rock of Ages' also includes Julianne Hough, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman and Mary J. Blige.

Tom Cruise, perfect to play Lee Child's 6-foot-5 tough

Tom Cruise is in talks to play Jack Reacher, the 6-foot-5 tough guy created by author Lee Child. And Child says he doesn't mind that the actor, 10 inches shorter and perhaps a bit older than his fictional killer, may take on the role.

"Reacher's size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way," Child said, according to Deadline Hollywood, which has an exclusive report on the potential film deal.

Although the exact film in which Cruise may star is based on the Jack Reacher book "One Shot," the character figures in 15 books by Child. The latest, "Worth Dying For," hit the L.A. Times bestseller list. In all, Deadline Hollywood reports, Child's Jack Reacher books have sold more than 40 million copies.

Tom Cruise, Lea Thompson were completely 'naked' in 'All The Right Moves'

Actress Lea Thompson has revealed that she and actor Tom Cruise were completely naked for their make-out session in cult film 'All The Right Moves'.

"Everybody made a really big deal about it (Cruise being naked) and I was like, 'I'm naked too!,'" Contactmusic quoted her as saying on Access Hollywood Live.

Asked if she and Cruise were wearing protection and coverage, she added, "We couldn't do that... You could see the sides of us.

"I remember they were ready to shoot and it was a closed set and everything, and the DP (director of photography) said to me, 'Do you have any body make-up on,' and I said, 'What's that?' I was so young; I had no idea."

Thompson also admitted that it was a thrill to work with "committed" Cruise: "It was my second or third movie and I had never worked with anyone, like, real kind of method before. He taught me a lot. He was great."

Tom Cruise 'bummed out' when finishing filming Mission Impossible

Mission Impossible director Brad Bird said Tom Cruise was 'bummed out' when they finished filming scenes on the world's tallest building.

Cruise, 48, is reprising his role as Ethan Hunt for the fourth installment of the movie franchise, which the Incredibles director has taken the helm of.

Some of the scenes for the new movie were filmed on top of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, in Dubai and Bird spoke about Cruise's stunts on top of the building.

He said to MTV News: "It's big and it is crazy. I think the craziest thing is that they're real they're not digital. That's Tom Cruise on the tallest building in the world, he's doing all that stuff.

"People won't believe it, but we shot it in IMAX so it's there for everyone to see."

Bird added that Cruise was disappointed when scenes were finished on top of the building.

He said: "He actually lives for that stuff. He loves it. Loves it. The day we finished shooting on the Burj, everyone suddenly relaxed because nothing had happened, no one had gotten injured or died, and the only one who was bummed out was Tom because he had to come down from the building. He loves that stuff."
